Georgetown Loop RR 3ft Gauge #40

Michael Taylor

Returning from the 9th National Narrow Gauge Convention in Durango, CO ( September 1989), I stopped and rode the Georgetown Loop Railroad between Georgetown and Silver Plume over the reconstructed Devil's Gate Viaduct. The engine is on the 96 ft high trestle. I find the early morning sun in the Rockies to make very tricky lighting situations with very strong shadows and strong side lighting. The photo was taken from an open car at the end of the train which also required a faster shutter speed and the combination lead to a less than perfect picture.

GB&L #40 is a 1920 2-8-0 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Eddystone, PA, for the International Railways of Central America.
