East Broad Top 3ft Gauge 2-8-2 #12

Michael Taylor

In this summer of 1972 photo,  #12 moves onto the turntable at Rockhill Furnace, PA which is adjacent to Orbisonia, PA.

The East Broad Top is a 3ft gauge railroad which was the last operating narrow gauge railroad east of the Mississippi. There are 4 Baldwin 2-8-2 locomotives surviving that were built between 1911 and 1918. The line was built to haul coal and it exchanged with the Pennsylvania Railroad at Mount Union. Today it hauls tourists and preserves a bit of Industrial History.

East Broad Top #12 is a 1911 2-8-2 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Eddystone, PA, outside of Philadelphia.
