Cass #6 Heisler Locomotive

Cass #6 is a 1929 3-truck 90 ton Heisler built by the Heisler Locomotive Works of Erie, Pennsylvania. This design was a competitor of the Shay and used 2 steam cylinders positioned in a "V"  under the boiler driving a prop shaft along the loco centreline to the 3 geared  trucks.

Heisler #6 is seen approaching Whittaker, WV which is 4 miles from Cass and is the site of the picnic grounds. It appears no one was taking advantage of the flat car next to #6 on this particular August 1978 trip.
