4228 on the Szilágyi utca

Budapest has an extensive system of trams lines numbered between 1 and 69 with gaps due to line closings over the years. The lines are standard gauge. Tatra T5C5 cars were built in what was then Czechoslovakia and are single-ended cars riding on 2 4-wheel trucks, they have seating for 28 and a top speed of 65 km/h, 40 mph. They are powered by 4 electric motors having a combined rating of 180 kW, 240 hp and draw 600 volts from the overhead.

Tatra T5C5 number 4228 heads a route 12 service past a parked Trabant in a timeless scene from the northeast suburbs. Actually it is Saturday, October 25th, 2003 on Szilágyi utca just outside the MÁV station at Rákospalota-Ujpest.
