Southern Region Signal Boxes

Uckfield signal box on the ex-LBSCR line from Lewes to Oxted. This signal box was built in the 1882 to a Saxby & Farmer design. This box was still used to manually operate the level crossing gates.

The photo was taken in 1977 when the trains used to cross the main road into the original Uckfield station. The box still exists although no longer used because the train platform has been moved to the Oxted side of what used to be the A22.
