1200 "Falcon"

Class 53

Built in 1961 by Brush Co-Co wheel arrangement with 6 traction motors. Prime mover was 2 Maybach MD655 V-type engines each rated at 1440 bhp.

Class 53 was composed of a single locomotive D1200 "Falcon" which was purchased after extensive tests on BR. It was a 2880 hp Brush development of the class 47. 1200 "Falcon" is seen on an up Paddington express passing Reading Diesel Depot in July 1971.
