6223 was built in July 1956 as a RDC-3 (serial number 6305) and was numbered CP 9024. It was acquired by VIA RAIL in September 1978 and became VIA 9024 until it was renumbered to VIA 6223 in March 1982. At some point prior to 1982 this unit was converted from  RDC-3 to RDC-2.
6223 was sold to Industrial Rail Services in 2000.
