GySEV (Györ-Sopron-Ebenfurthi Vasút) is 94% owned by the
governments of both Austria (33%) & Hungary (61%) and also has running rights over
MÁV trackage into Budapest from Györ.
It was founded in 1872 and
operated inside the then Austro-Hungarian Empire. Following the break-up
into the separate countries of Austria & Hungary, it continued to
operate as a unified company with two subsidiaries, (one Austrian & one
Hungarian, each operating under the regulations of that country) from 1923
and still maintains that corporate structure with its unified headquarters
in Budapest. |
