The HÉV suburban Railway is operated by the BKVrt which also operate the trams, trolleybuses, bus. subway and cog railway in Budapest and their local tickets are valid on its services as far as the city limits.  
It is standard gauge, electrified at 1000 volts DC and has a total length of 176 kilometres divided amongst the 4 unconnected lines. There are 1 line running north, another east and 2 running south.
Current powered stock is classed as MIXa, MX & MXa where the Roman numerals IX & X refer to versions 9 and 10. Version 1 was introduced in 1925.
