BDe4/4 46 in the shed at Herisau

The Appenzeller is a metre gauge railway, electrified at 1500 volts. It connects Altstätten, Gais, Appenzell, St Gallen & Gossau. There are 2 units in the class with units 46 & 47 built in 1968. They are rated at 516 kW, 692 hp with a top sped of 65 km/h, 40 mph and seat 32 2nd class passengers plus a luggage/bicycle compartment.
B is 2nd class, D indicates bicycle/luggage area, e for electric and 4/4 shows all 4 axles are powered.
