Rhätische Bahn is a metre gauge railway network in southeastern Switzerland running from junctions with the SBB at Landquart and Chur to St. Moritz and Davos. This part of their system is electrified at 11,000 volts.

Locomotive 212 is a Ge2/4 electric shunter built in 1968 from an earlier 1912 built locomotive. It rides on 2 powered axles with pony wheels fore and aft (hence 2/4 or 1-Bo-1) with a power rating of 230 kW, 308 hp and a shunting speed of 55 km/h, 34 mph..
