MEG or Mitteldeutsche
Eisenbahn GmbH was founded in 1998 to take over the Dow Chemical railway
operation. This company is the railway division of the Buna-Werke. They
operate long-distance trains from Schkopau in the former GDR, and local
freight on Köthen-Aken, from Halberstadt to Ströbeck/Oschersleben/Heudeber
& Danstedt, and from Böhlen to Altenburg, Espenhain, Ammelshain,
Seelingstädt and Trebsen Unit 77 is an 0-8-0 diesel shunter originally built in 1979 by the LEW. It is a V60 type rated at 478 kW, 640 hp, but the MEG website at www.meg-bahn.de describes the loco as class 346. It is seen at the DB Halberstadt works on Saturday September 21st, 2002. |
