The 772 rail buses (Schienenbusse) were built by the DDR as class 172 from 1964. There are 4 wheeled with one axle only driven by a 132 kW, 177 hp diesel engine. They have a top speed of 90 km/h, 56 mph and seat 54 second class passengers and are fitted with a toilet. Sub-class 772.3 were fitted with upgraded engines and transmissions between 1992 & 1996.
