DB Class 642 Diesel Units

The DB acquired 238 units "Desiro" units from Siemens between 2000 & 2001. These are 2 car articulated units riding on 3 4-wheel trucks with both axles of the central truck powered. Each unit is equipped with a 275 kW diesel providing a total of 550kW, 735 hp and a top speed of 120 km/h, 75 mph. Passenger seating is 12 first class and 111 second class and the toilet facilities are handicap accessible. Units numbered 001 to 238 are 2nd class and units numbered 501-738 are 1st & 2nd class.
