Class 749 are diesel electrics rated at 1102 kW, 1477 hp with a top speed of 100 km/h, 62 mph. This class was formed by adding electric train heat to class 751 (freight) & 752 (steam heat locos later re-classed as 751.3)locomotives starting in 1992. 60 locomotives were so fitted.
