JLS modernized class 703 shunters starting in 1997 by fitting new bodies
and cabs and a new diesel engine rated at 170 kW.
Class 703 were originally produced for both the mainline railway and industry in the
period 1969-1979 and were a development of the 702 class using a
hydro-mechanical transmission instead of the straight mechanical. These 2-axle diesel mechanicals are rated at 170 kW,
hp with a top speed of 40 km/h, 25 mph. They were originally built by TSM.
