Class 181 Co-Co DC Electric

Czech electric locomotives with a 1 in the first position are 3000v DC electrics.
Class 181 were built by Škoda in 1961 & 1962. The 1961 batch numbered to 080 are rated at 2610 kW, 3498 hp and the 1962 batch (numbers 081 to 150) are rated at 2790 kW, 3740 hp.  Top speed of both batches is 90 km/h, 56 mph. The bogie wheelbase of 2400mm + 2200mm caused undue wear of the rails and the flanges of the centre wheels in both bogies are thinner. Originally a class of 150 locomotives, many have been withdrawn in favour of the 182 class with a revised axle spacing.
