Ca' d'Oro

Michael Taylor

Monday afternoon September 17th, 2001.

The Ca' d'Oro (Golden House) palace was completed in 1440 and took its name from the heavy gold gilding which originally covered the columns and ornaments. Originally the home of the Contarinis, 8 members of the family were Doges, it was restored in the early 20th century by Baron Franchetti and is now a museum.
Behind the blue boat is the Ca' d'Oro vaporetto stop and you can see how high the water level is with the ground floor arches slightly flooded.
