The 5047 class was built by Jenbacher from 1987 onwards as a 62 seater
second class diesel railcar for secondary services over the
non-electrified sections of the ÖBB. The units ride on 2 4-wheel trucks
with both axles of one powered by a 419 kW, 562 hp diesel using a
hydraulic transmission to produce a top speed of 120 km/h, 75 mph. Thursday September 26th, 2002, a rainy afternoon, sees passengers from the Salzburg to Linz semi-fast scurry across the unprotected platforms at Steindorf bei Straßwalchen to catch the branchline train to Simbach(Inn) which consisted of a single unit 5047 072-3. |
