Class 2143 Mixed Traffic Diesel
ÖBB 2143 Mixed Traffic Diesel. These 4 axle locomotives were built by
Simmering-Graz-Pauker from 1965 to replace the last of the Austrian steam
locomotives still in service. They are diesel hydraulics rated at 1115 kW,
1495hp with a top speed of 100 km/h, 62 mph for locos 001 to 033 and 110
km/h, 68 mph for locos 034-077 which are also fitted for multiple unit
operation. Note the difference in the side windows
and grilles between the 2043 & 2143 classes.
2143 022-8 was built at SGP Simmering (works number 18390) and entered service in March 1970.
2143 022-8 arrives at Sopron with train IC937 from Weiner Neustadt which will have coaches and a Taurus electric locomotive added here before going on to Csorna, where it will join IC917 from Szombathely for the ultimate destination at Budapest-Deli pu. Photographed on Thursday October 23rd, 2003.
