6716 was built in November 1983 (serial number 837047-17), becoming NS 5410 at the break-up of Conrail. 6729 was built in December 1983 (serial number 837047-30), becoming NS 5417 at the break-up of Conrail. 

Conrail 3500 hp, 2611 kW SD50 locomotives 6716 & 6729 climb Horseshoe Curve with a westbound freight in June 1986.
