1973. The Algoma Central Railway tourist train from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to the Agawa Canyon (milepost 114) and beyond was often hauled by 4 1500 hp GP7 locomotives hauling 22 or 23 coach trains including 2 dining cars. The train set down and pick up passengers, supplies and canoes at flag stops along the way. Most passengers de-trained at the Canyon and spent the afternoon picnicking and relaxing before boarding the southbound train for the return to Sault Ste. Marie. Today, the train still runs and provides a wonderful day's train experience. Here is the Agawa Canyon Train Website. |
