Rhätische Bahn is a metre gauge railway network in southeastern Switzerland running from junctions with the SBB at Landquart and Chur to St. Moritz and Davos. This part of their system is electrified at 11,000 volts.

Locomotive 704 is a Ge6/6 II introduced from 1958 for heavy freight working. It rides on 3 4-wheel trucks (6 powered axles, hence 6/6 with a Bo-Bo-Bo wheel arrangement) with a power rating of 1764 kW, 2365 hp and a top speed of 80 km/h, 50 mph..
