Class 485 Electric Multiple Unit

Class 485 driving motor units & 885 trailer cars make up a 2 car half-unit which are coupled to another 2-car set to form 4 car trains. Both bogies in each motor unit are powered. The 2 car unit is rated at 480 kW, 643 hp for a total 4-car rating of 960 kW, 1286 hp with a top speed of 90 km/h, 55 mph. They operate on 800 volt DC collected from a third rail. Introduced in 1980 as DDR class 270. Each 2 car set seat 100 passengers.
This unit was built by LEW (works number 21295) in November 1991 as 485 118-4 and was sold to S-Bahn Berlin in January 1995.
