Class 485 driving motor units & 885 trailer cars make up a 2 car
half-unit which are coupled to another 2-car set to form 4 car
trains. Both bogies in each motor unit are powered. The 2 car unit is rated at
480 kW, 643 hp for a
total 4-car rating of 960 kW, 1286 hp with a top speed of 90 km/h, 55 mph. They operate on 800 volt DC collected from a third rail.
Introduced in 1980 as DDR class 270. Each 2 car set seat 100 passengers. S-Bahn class 485 with a westbound S5 at Berlin-Lichtenberg on Friday April 20th, 2007. |
