477 091-3 & 481 420-8 at Berlin Ostbahnhof.

Berlin S-Bahn class 477 design dates from 1937 although these units were built into the 1940s and modernized in the 1990s. They are 2 coach electric half sets which run a 4 car units with a motor driving unit at each end.
This motor unit was built by Orenstein & Koppel - Arthur Koppel AG in 1939 as elT 4033, renumbered in 1941 to ET167 200, it then passed to the East German Railways at the end of the war. In 1970, it was renumbered DR 277 209-3, then to 477 91-3 under the 1992 scheme and was sold to Berlin S-Bahn in January 1995. It was withdrawn from service shortly after my visit on June 16th, 2003.

S-Bahn unit 477 091-3 (built 1939)  with much younger unit 481 420-8 (built February 2003) at Berlin Ostbahnhof on Saturday May 10th, 2003.
