The Torre del Mangia, (the bell tower of Il Campo) is over 500 steps in a steep and narrow circular staircase leading to viewing platforms just below the bell. Tickets are sold for the climb which has restriction on how many people can be at the top at any one time. It is a very tight squeeze when you need to pass visitors going the other way and I don't recommend it for the unfit or those with claustrophobia. 

The views from the top; however, are unequalled. This photo was taken from the Via Renaldini looking towards Il Campo.
