CNR's SD40 6-axle freight locomotives first entered service in September
1967 (5000) and the last SD40-2(W) was delivered in December 1980 (5363).
They were built at the GMD locomotive factory in London, Ontario.
They are rated at 3000 hp, 2238 kW with a top speed of 65 mph, 105 km/h. Series 5364 to 5387 are former Missouri Pacific SD40-2 acquired in 1994 and are fitted with the then-conventional narrow cabs. Series 6000 to 6028 are SD40u locomotives upgraded from CNR SD40 between 1992 & 1995. |
